Ubiquinol (not ubiquinone) is the active antioxidant form of CoQ10. In comparing the different forms of CoQ10, the primary factor is how many milligrams are in your blood stream at any time. Different studies have suggested that ubiquinol provides up to 8 times better initial as well as 40% more sustained plasma levels (overall bioavailability) than other forms of CoQ10. It appears particularly advantageous in people under increased oxidative or physical stress, and in elderly subjects who may have difficulty converting CoQ10 to ubiquinol in the body.
